We provide services relating to the building industry. We issue a variety of permits: new construction (homes, commercial, and industrial), additions, garages and out buildings, plumbing, swimming pools, demolitions, and signage. Our main priority is public safety. We are responsible to ensure construction takes place in accordance with the Ontario Building Code, that all minimum standards are met, and that the project conforms to zoning by- laws. We inspect building construction while it is in process, and we work in coordination with our planning staff by commenting on re-zoning, land divisions, minor variances, and site plan approvals. We also collect development charges on behalf of the Region of Durham, Board of Education, and the Township.

Department hours are from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. No appointment is necessary and forms are available for your convenience. Our department personnel include The Chief Building Official, 1 Building Inspector, and ½ Support Staff (we share our Support Staff Person with the Public Works Department).
