Compton Cable TV Limited was incorporated in the spring of 1972 and initially licensed by the CRTC to provide cable television services to Uxbridge, Ontario. Construction of the Uxbridge Cable TV plant was completed in November 1972.
Compton Cable TV Limited received the license to provide cable television services to Port Perry, Ontario in 1975.
In 1994, the Company expanded its licensed area from York/Durham boundary east to Lake Scugog and from Pickering/Scugog town line north to a boundary drawn across from Mount Albert.
The company began operating under the name Compton Communications in 1998.
In December of 1999 Compton Communications launched PowerGATE™, a new Internet and Data Services Division. PowerGATE Lite, a dial-up replacement service, launched in September 2002.
Digital cable services were introduced in October of 2001, with high definition television arriving in September of 2003. Compton launched the first high-definition capable personal video recorder (PVR) in Canada in November 2003.
In December 2003, in partnership with Capital Networks, Compton launched the world's first self-serve advertising channel, available on channel 23 and simultaneously on the web at www.bigads.ca.
